Art show clean up week

Wed Jun 10, 2009, 11:17 AM
  • Mood: Artistic
  • Reading: letters to a young artist
So as promised I'm writing about the show. It runs for three days:
Saturday&Sunday 12-5pm and Monday 9am-9pm.
My shifts are Saturday 12-3 pm, and Monday 3-9 pm. On the Monday I'm giving tours, so I hope you guys come to see the show.

We have spent this entire week getting ready:

Monday: We got to school and all the furniture of all the rooms was in the hallway, and we had to take all of it to storage and then go get a job to do. I signed up for matting (because I wanted to learn it), spent about a couple of minutes learning about how to do it right from the teacher, and began the enormous task of matting all the pieces that are going into the show (drawing, watercolours, lithos and etchings) with the help of two others beginning at about 9 am. I did the measurements, consulting the artists, and assembly. We got about 2/4 of the way through them before calling it a day at 3:00pm.

Tuesday: We went to the matting room to find that to our team was added Mr.Hein and Mr.Milton, which got the work to go so much more smoothly. Mr.Milton did all the measurements and calculations (thank you ^_^) then kidnapped some of the work, returning it with an assistant after cutting the matting boards to size so that Mr. Heine can cut the holes in them, and so everything would go quicker. Then three of us assembled the pieces as soon as they were cut, and we were done before lunch! I was then asked to help organize the cut pieces of mat according to colour and size and got two other people I like to help me ^_^ we then stacked up the artwork according to medium and size to make it easier on everyone to find them. After that I cleaned up the room with Mrs.Crozier and went to lunch.

lunch: So at lunch we found out that someone who was in the other room painting (we repaint the walls of all the rooms!) got paint all over someone's painting! Omg! Not only that, but the person hid the painting in a corner so that no one would notice, and that Mr. Pelzer had spent about half an hour trying to save the painting. O_O

Afternoon:

Coming back I had nothing to do considering my job was done, so I sat in the room doing some finishing touches on stuff with Mr.Pelzer when in walks ms.B (I'm not going to say her name you can ask me about her later), and demands that we cut her picture again because she doesn't like the colour (oh for the love of God! whatever am I going to do? My picture, which I'm selling at the show is not framed in black but navy blue! It's a catastrophe! So I hate it and I demand it be re-done regardless of the fact that you all just cleaned up.*rolls eyes*). Then for some reason she decides that she wants to join the little group of people who were just sitting around after having actually done a bunch of work and brag about how easy her job is.

What ticks me off even more is that she signed up to take attendance of everyone in our class, which is not a hard job. Problem is, she only went to like two rooms and asked if people saw this person or that, and even if you say yes, they are in room (...), she'll say, "well, I haven't seen them, so they're not here."
The problem with that is; participation in clean up week (and the show) is considered part of our marks, in fact 10% of our mark, so if you're marked absent or late etc. it affects your final marks.
Now here's the thing that ticked me off, this one girl (not saying her name either) told her that on Wed she was going to be late about ten minutes because of a doctor's appointment, she had already talked to the teacher and so asked to mark her there. The one doing the attendance said, "Too bad, I'll mark you there when I see you."
errrgggghhhhh!!! Now, to know the extent of my dislike for this girl you would have had to know that she had also gone to South, I didn't like her then and don't now. It doesn't help that she never did anything that had to do with art, no, she took this year just because she didn't feel like going on to university (not because she cares for art) and for bragging right of having come here. She is so snobbish and whiny it's annoying as well as pathetic. She criticizes people like R and D who have a true artist's way of thinking and says that their work isn't art because it isn't what she does nor is it creative. Then she goes and knits the world for a final project in textiles in a plain beige, and sticks it onto a beige frame calling that creative. *shoots* ... sorry getting waaaay off topic here, but she just gets on my nerves.

Anyways, so after putting up with her for about ten minutes (the time it took to finish inking the sketch I was working on), I grabbed my bag and left. It amused me that about thirty seconds later, the girl who was sitting near me joined me outside, after another 30 sec two more people left and came to join me, then the rest joined us after about another minute in the textiles room. lol, I guess I'm not the only person she gets on the nerves of, but I'm the only one who would blatantly show it.

I then started helping Mrs.Crozier to put up pieces in the textiles room until the end of the day with the people who ran off from the above room ^_^

Friday:Okay, well as the last day before the art show, all the pieces were up, we got to walk around the whole department to look at it. Eric and I ended up walking around at lunch, looking at the pieces and talking about them together ^.^ Then all of us were kicked out at 12 so that the teachers can go around, make sure everything is set up right, an decide who gets what award for what. My biggest disappointment had been the animations, other than Eric's and Sorin's animations, the rest made me sad. These 'specials' (they took another year after foundations to concentrate on two classes), who took the animation class, who should be animating everyday considering they only have two classes to worry about, wasted he time not doing anything really. I'm so mad!!!

I need a break o-o
In other news, I managed to get an amazing accomplishment in animation (this is actually part of the animation I'm bringing in to show Mr.Haney) ^_^ I got Chase riding a galloping horse *EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!*, it took me about two hours to figure out how to do it because a) I don't know how to draw horses/animals (working on fixing that though) and b)I don't know how to animate that ._. but it turned out so well (except for that cape which I'll fix tonight)

Ps: I uploaded those pictures onto the computer, and scanned in some things to put up, I'll just have to put them on DA at one point ^_^.
